R&B, FUNK LEGEND RICK JAMES DEAD AT 56 August 08, 2004
Influential R&B and funk legend Rick James has died in his Los Angeles home, apparently of natural causes. At the time of his death, James, 56 years old, was preparing for the release of an album that he recently completed, and was in discussions about a movie based on his somewhat turbulent life.
James, perhaps best known for his infectious, chart-topping hit, "Super Freak," was a multi-talented musician, producer and arranger. In addition to writing and producing songs for artists ranging from Smokey Robinson to Eddie Murphy, his songs were frequently sampled by rap artists, most notably by MC Hammer in his multi-platinum hit song, "You Can't Touch This."
James is survived by his three children, Ty, Rick Jr., and Tazman), and two grandchildren, Jasmine and Charisma.
