MSN MUSIC, GARAGEBAND TEAM UP FOR INDIES
GarageBand.com, which recently purchased the MP3.com music archives, has reached a deal with Microsoft that will create a GarageBand microsite on the MSN Music site that will feature independent artists from its community that are rated highly on the service.
"MSN Music provides GarageBand.com's artists with the one thing they need most to further their careers: exposure to a mass audience," said Ali Partovi, CEO of GarageBand.com. "MSN's dedication to promoting independent music will allow both artists and music fans to realize the Internet's true potential for transforming the music business."
In addition to creating a GarageBand page on the MSN Music site, MSN Music plans to initially offer 150,000 tracks that GarageBand.com is restoring from the former MP3.com archive, and that its charts of top-rated songs will appear on MSN music. Eventually, additional tracks from GarageBand member artists, as well as radio streams from GarageBand radio, will be available via links on MSN Music.
