MURDER INC. HEAD IRV GOTTI INDICTED ON MONEY LAUNDERING CHARGE
According to published reports, Irv "Gotti" Lorenzo and his brother Christopher, have been charged with laundering drug money for their friend, Kenneth "Preme" MGriff, an alleged drug lord, who has separately been charged with three murders.
The indictment, filed by the Jutice Department, alleges that the Lorenzos used Murder Inc, recently renamed The Inc., and other business entities to launder close to $1 million from McGriff's drug enterprise. Murder Inc. is co-owned by Island Def Jam, which has not been charged in the matter.
In the indictment, the Lorenzos, McGriff and five other individuals are portrayed as partners in dangerous criminal enterprise that used threats of violence to keep others from cooperating with law enforcement. McGriff, who is currently in prison for a gun violation, was convicted for drug dealing in the '80s, when he was a member of a notorious gang that reportedly ran a drug ring in Queens, NY. McGriff has been charged with ordering three drug-related murders, and he is a suspect in the 2001 slaying of rapper E-Money Bags, born Eric Smith. McGriff is also charged with oredring the killing of two of Smoth's associates.
Gotti and his brother, who were released on $1 million bonds, have pleaded not guilty to the charges.
