Lovely Looks
By: Sylvia M. Massey
What do all women look for when we try on clothes? A flattering silhouette, something that induces style and makes us feel good in our skin. A piece that speaks to us or sometimes even calls our name. Now that the prerequisites have been established, it’s time for course study of Lovely. The fairly new line of women’s clothing that fulfills all of the prerequisites. The front woman of the modern designs is Melanie Clark, a self taught designer who has a motivating background. Clark has experience in many areas on the fashion front.
The designer was once a producer of fashion shows and an employee for established style houses. While working for high-end designers, the savvy creator picked up on basic techniques. She eventually developed and employed them into her own fashion child, Lovely. Melanie’s vigorous passion for making women feel good about themselves is one vast reason Lovely was born. “I want women to feel comfortable in my clothes. I have a love for garments and the feelings that clothes can evoke.”
Clark takes pride in her novel line because she feels that Lovely is something all women can wear. “I listened to women’s complaints and knew there was a void, so I wanted to fill the void. The pieces are very versatile, and there’s more than one way to wear them.” The line includes practical day pieces that can easily be transformed into evening wear, as well as, a line for the little ladies, Lovely Girls.

The chic line is so useful that pregnant women usually find solace in the clothes also. The pieces can be worn anywhere from work, to school and even a dinner party. “The garments are day to night garments, they’re flattering to all sizes of women from the smallest to full figured.” While Lovely ranges in functionality, it also ranges in style. The pieces are stylish and edgy, yet there’s a vintage appeal to them. “The clothes are edgy without being too trendy. I want people to look in their closets in ten years and still love and wear them.”
Lovely publicly debuted this past Independence Day weekend with much success. The hard work and zeal that are put into creating a flourishing clothing label are beginning to pay off for Clark. Many women are requesting her designs, and soon she plans to expand from her studio into a boutique near you. Her vision as a designer will take her to new and exciting places—she already has foresight of a bridal line reminiscent of her personal style icon Yves Saint Laurent. She’s developing relationships with other fashion addicts, like her friend, designer Micah Thompson (look for his line in Fall 2004). Melanie Clark is the self-motivated, creative designer behind the hottest new line. And the design diva is looking forward to seeing thousands of women appear Lovely.
